Jürgen Schaflechner leads a research group at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology (FU Berlin), focusing on the political and social movements of religious minorities in South Asia. His books include: Hinglaj Devi. Identity, Change, and Solidification at a Hindu Temple in Pakistan (OUP 2018), Ritual Journeys (Routledge 2019, co-ed. by Christoph Bergmann), and Pakistan. Alternative Imaginings of the Nation-State (OUP 2020, co-ed. by Ayesha Asif and Christina Oesterheld). He is editor in chief of the journal Dastavezi—The Audio-Visual South Asia, an international peer-reviewed, open-access e-journal, which seeks to reposition film as a central mode of knowing and thinking about South Asia. He has also filmed, edited, and produced six documentary films on topics such as the alleged forced conversion of Hindu women to Islam in Sindh, the lifeworlds of Pakistani Hindu refugees in India, and the sacrificial rites amongst the Devapujak-Vagri community in Karachi. His latest film, The Toxic Reigns of Resentment (2019), deals with the culture of resentment in today’s politics. The film features interviews with Wendy Brown, Rahel Jaeggi, and Peter Sloterdijk, among others.
Ira Shefer – Researcher on climate and energy policy – Berlin
I had a very good experience working with Daniel on my PhD thesis. He provided a profound and thorough editing and proofreading of several thesis chapters. His comments on and advice for the text were short, clear, and precise, and enabled me to revise the chapters easily. I hardly had the need to ask him for clarifications after receiving his editing suggestions. The communication with Daniel was super! He was easy to reach and replied to my questions quickly. Ira Shefer researches climate and energy policy. In 2022 he completed his PhD, which examines the influence exercised by Germany and the European Union on climate governance in Israel, at the Technical University of Munich’s School of Social Sciences and Technology. His article “Policy transfer in city-to-city cooperation: implications for urban climate governance learning” appeared in the Journal of Environmental Policy & Planning (Vol. 21, 2019). He currently lives with his wife and two children in Berlin.

In the past years, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with Daniel Fisher several times. I always profited greatly and in manifold ways from his competencies as language teacher, proofreader, editor, and language consultant. The translations he has done over the years, which have often become the matured result of a fruitful exchange between us, convinced and impressed me owing to their soundness down to the details. Availability, punctuality, clarity, and transparency, as well as reliability are qualities that I greatly appreciate in Mr. Fisher. Ugo Balzaretti is a doctor of philosophy and translator. 2018 saw the publication of his book Leben und Macht. Eine radikale Kritik am Naturalismus nach Michel Foucault und Georges Canguilhem. His published essays include: "Rameau's Nephew: Michel Foucault and the discrimen between madness and mental illness as a biopolitical threshold," "War, Race, Norm: Carl Schmitt and Michel Foucault's Rejection of a System Concept." He lives with his family in Ticino, where he translates and teaches philosophy.
Michael Ziesak – Consultant for transport policy at the German Car Sharing Association – Berlin
Within the framework of European projects, we depend on communicating our often complex research results to our partners and sponsors in a way that is both easy to understand and correct. In the process, Mr. Fisher has supported the German Car Sharing Association on several occasions with his competent and reliable work. Ina Klingenberg – Clinical Psychologist – Berlin
Mr. Fisher did a superb job of translating an article of mine for a book on psychoanalysis and migration for a renowned English publisher. Mr. Fisher did this for me quickly, reliably, and very competently. From the outset and during the entire translation process, he took the time to ensure clear communication. That means that, in accordance with my wishes, he consulted with me so that the text would find the best expression in English. He made suggestions regarding the structure and wording of the text and discussed with me how to best preserve its authenticity. He showed an impressive understanding of the specialized text and grasped my thoughts swiftly and aptly. Ina Klingenberg is Dipl. Psych., MS, practicing psychoanalyst and psychotherapist, with her MA in Psychoanalytical Cultural Studies. Mr. Daniel Fisher is known to me through the translation of my Judaistic-philosophical texts from German into English – texts which he has always translated accurately, and – above all! – true to their spirit, to my fullest satisfaction. It concerns and has always concerned texts of a social scientific and, moreover, of a theoretical nature. Here, I would like to emphasize his sovereignty in diction and intimate knowledge of theoretical conceptions, as well as his mastery of syntax and idiom. Moreover, collaboration with him has been as simple as it has been productive – our communication has always proceeded smoothly. Ultimately, Mr. Fisher distinguishes himself through his generally exceptional reliability in consultation. Last but not least, Mr. Fisher is himself philosophically educated, which was particularly evident in the challenging translation of Martin Heidegger's German into English.
Micha Brumlik is professor emeritus at the Institute for General Education Studies of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt/M. From 2000 to 2005, he served as director of the Fritz Bauer Institute Frankfurt/M., Study and Documentation Centre for the History of the Holocaust and its Effect; and city councilor representing the GREENS in Frankfurt from 1989 to 2001. Since 2013 he has worked as senior professor at the Selma Stern Center for Jewish Studies Berlin-Brandenburg.
Naomi Rolef – Doctor of Philosophy in Film Studies – FU Berlin
Daniel Fisher corrected an academic article of mine in English, and the results were highly pleasing. My English is quite good for a non-native speaker, but I wanted my article to have that extra professional edge. I sent the initial text to Mr. Fisher and we agreed upon a schedule. After he'd read it through, we arranged a phone conversation in which Mr. Fisher helped me clarify ambiguities. He then completed his work. Although Mr. Fisher comes from a different academic field than mine, he had no difficulty adjusting to my professional vocabulary. Aside from his fast and professional service, I particularly appreciated that Mr. Fisher treated the content of my article with respect, and made sure that my initial ideas and personal style would not be lost in the corrected version. Naomi Rolef has her doctorate in Film Studies (FU Berlin). Her dissertation on the construction of subjectivity through the sex scene in mainstream Israeli cinema was completed in 2017 and published in 2021 under the title Framing the Sex Scene: A New Take on Israeli Film History.
Anne Eusterschulte – Professor for the History of Philosophy – FU Berlin
Daniel Fisher has proven himself to be an outstanding specialist translator of texts in the Humanities. Based on his bilingual competence, his philosophical education, and his profound erudition, he is able to produce translations from German into English as well as edited revisions of texts written in English, with a great feel for language and stylistic sovereignty. In doing so, what particularly distinguishes him is his ability to penetrate precisely the thematized matters in their respective texts and correspondingly render translations as elegant as they are succinct.
Anne Eusterschulte is Professor for the History of Philosophy (FU Berlin) since 2007. She is a member of the SFB (Collaborative Research Center) “Episteme in Bewegung. Wissenstransfer von der alten Welt bis in die frühe Neuzeit“ (Eng.: “Episteme in Movement. Knowledge transfer from the Old World to the early Modern Era”), and of the Friedrich Schlegel Graduate School for Literary Studies. Sophie Wennerscheid – Associate Professor of Danish Literature at the Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics (NorS) – University of Copenhagen
I would like to recommend Daniel Fisher as a competent, linguistically sensitive, and prudent translator into English. As a literary critic, I’ve availed myself of his services for editing my English-language articles, book contributions, and project proposals. I’ve also entrusted to him the translation into English of multiple text passages written in German. Both regarding his work in the area of text revision (editing and proofreading) and his translation work, I am very satisfied with his proven dedication. All of my texts were treated carefully and found the mark of proper academic English usage, without any loss to the characteristic style and flow of my texts. Sophie Wennerscheid is a professor of Danish Literature at the Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics (NorS) at the University of Copenhagen. Her theoretical interests include Gender Theory, Subject Theory, and Posthumanism. Her fields of research encompass literature about cleanliness and dirtiness; interculturality, migration, and minority literature; models and countermodels in literature of the great city.
Her main book publications include Das Begehren nach der Wunde. Religion und Erotik im Schrieben Kierkegaards, Berlin 2008; 'Close your Eyes'. Catherine Newmark – Editor at "Philiosophie Magazin" and Deutschlandfunk Kultur
As an academic and journalist, I am faced time and again with the need to publish texts in English. My language skills are certainly solid, but not beyond all reasonable doubt, and consequently my English texts require correction by a native speaker. Since I publish above all in the field of philosophy, (besides academic publications, I also work on the German and French "Philosophie Magazin," an international working context which also frequently appears in English), I need someone who not only has a good feel for language, but also and most of all a well-founded philosophical education. Philosophical terminology cannot be adequately handled by a stranger to the disciple. For this reason, I am very pleased about the good and continual cooperation with Daniel Fisher in recent years. He’s a superb translator and proofreader to whom I submit either for translation or for correction all my English-language texts, and who is capable of realizing them perfectly, also because, regarding the content, he comes from the field.
